Div Com reviews arrangements for paddy procurement | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, OCTOBER 20- Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal today chaired a meeting to discuss the modalities for setting up of a chain of paddy procurement centres across Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts to enable the farmers to get better returns for their crop. The meeting, attended by District Development Commissioners of the three districts besides representatives of Food Corporation of India and Agriculture, held a threadbare discussion about the steps to be taken for making adequate arrangements for procurement of upcoming paddy harvest at the prices fixed by the government of India. The meeting was told that the government has decided to set up adequate number of procurement centers across the three districts to facilitate the farmers and save them from middlemen. The meeting was informed that there are 13 procurement centers existing in the three districts which include R. S. Pura, Chohala, Bishnah, Cannu Chak, Khour and Pargwal in Jammu district, Sarore, Supwal, Vijaypur and Ramgarh in Samba district and Chan Gran, Palli More, Sanji Morh in Kathua district. The Div Com advised the farmers to bring dry and clean paddy as per FCI specifications for selling at FCI depots. He said that Levy Rice would be accepted by FCI from rice millers on certification that paddy has been purchased from the farmers at MSP rates. The meeting decided that additional procurement centers would be opened wherever required for the convenience of farmers. Among others, District Development Commissioner Jammu Mr. Sanjeev Verma, DDC Kathua Zahida Khan, DDC Samba Mr. Mubarak Singh, Director CAPD Mr. Parvez A. Malik, Joint Director Agriculture Mr. S. S. Jamwal, Area Manager, FCI, AGM, FCI, and other senior officers of Agriculture, FCI attended the meeting.
