Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 20: With opposition also maintaining silence over the mysterious death of Mohammed Yousf Shah a National conference activist who had made some startling revelations about cash for vote scam involving some top leaders of his party, it seems that the issue has died down for the time being.
Though the People Democratic Party (PDP) the main opposition party in the state raised the issue vociferously inside the State Legislature and outside the House for a couple of days has later chosen to adopt a soft stand on the issue for unknown reasons.
There is brewing public resentment among the people in the state over the mysterious death of Shah who was brought to CM's residence by some top politicians to seek the information from him as who were the top NC leaders whom he had paid the money in cash for vote scam and later his death took place under mysterious circumstances raising needle of suspicion over CM's security.
Though Government tried to avert public opinion by ordering a judicial probe into the death but this did not satisfy the people in state in general and Kashmir Valley in particular and there was a demand for CBI probe into the issue. However the silence maintained by PDP also over a week now shows that opposition was also prevailed upon by the Government not to make a hue and cry over the issue or there were some obvious reasons due to which the Party chose to remain mum later.
The other political parties including BJP and NPP also did not utter any word on the death and they from the day one shoes to remain silent as the two parties were not interested in breaking their inner relations ruling alliance.
As the killing of Mr Shah, the startling revelations made by him and later another NC worker who alleged that Mr Shah was tortured is a cause of concern for the people of trouble torn state and they want that the culprit responsible for his death should be brought to book. Besides, the people also want that the people responsible for cash for vote scam in the state be also punished under law.
According to sources there is a brewing resentment in the political circles in the Valley against the coalition since the name of some political leaders especially from alliance partners has come to fore. The people are of the opinion that in 1987 Assembly elections when both NC and Congress were alliance partners and the Muslim United Front (MUF) supporters were beaten by some senior NC leaders inside the lock ups resulted into the armed movement of 1989 in Kashmir and 22 year long turmoil which has gripped the entire state.
Sources said that despite the lot of devastation and destruction made by terrorists in last 22 years the ruling alliance has not learnt any lesson and they are still adopting the old tactics to deal with the voice of dissent. This may prove counter productive for the state as well as the national interests and it is high time for Delhi to intervene before it is too late.
