POONCH, Oct 20: The recent empowerment of Panchayats notwithstanding, a village level worker (VLW) has the gut to defy a sarpanch.
A VLW in Block Bafliaz of border district Poonch on Wednesday stunned a Sarpanch by saying that there was no provision for a VLW to work under a sarpanch.
As if this was not enough to embarrass the `empowered' Panches and Sarpanches that a child Development Officer of the same Block refused to meet a delegation comprising 22 Sarpanches saying they should seek prior appointment.
And the woeful take did not end here. A ZEO humiliated the Sarpanches. "Do not waste my time", he said to them
Reports said a Block Development Officer Bafliaz in border district Poonch had organized a meeting with all Surpanches of his block to inform them about the powers given to Panchayets by the government. Soon after, BDO Kartaar Singh Kamlak
finished his speech, a village level worker ( VLW) who has been designated Pancahyet secretary as well stood up and said there was no provision under which as Panchet secretary has to work under Surpanch of the Panchayet. "I want to make it clear that some of the Surpanches have misconception that panchayet secretary VLW is under them. We are equal and there is no such provision. The Sarpanch must clear their doubts", he clarified.
On the same day, reports said about 20 Surpanches of Block Bafliaz went to the adjoining office of CDPO Bafliaz to raise some Anganwaari related issues. The concerned CDPO refused to meet them saying that Surpanches must get prior appoint from the office before any meeting. Even none of the official bothered to offer a chair to the elected representatives.
Soon after, a deputation of Sarpanches led by Fazlabaad Mohammad Riaz called on the Zonal Education Office. The ZEO told them clearly not to interfere in his work and keep their suggestions with them.
The humiliated Sarpanches called an emergency meeting and decided to unite on a common platform to launch a movement against arrogant officers. |
