Local employees allege step-motherly treatment | ‘Headless’ Radio Kashmir | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Oct 21: Radio Kashmir Srinagar is headless since October 1 after the incumbent Director Javed Iqbal retired on September 30. This, sources told KNS has severely affected the working of the RK. “Though authorities gave assistant director and superintend engineer powers to run the station, the experiment has miserably failed. In absence of the full fledged director the functioning of the station has badly been affected,” they said. “There is complete lack of coordination between superintend engineer who is from outside state and the assistant director due to which employees of the station have suffered. While all the central government employees have been paid annual Diwali bonus ahead of the festival, it is only RK employees who are yet to get it,” sources added. A senior employee of the RK alleged that superintend engineer wasn’t comfortable with local employees and was meting out step-motherly treatment with them. “The superintend engineer recently ordered that mess service for employees who have to serve the station during night should be closed. In the absence of mess facility we have to go without meals whenever we have night shift,” he said. “But height of the things is that the superintend engineer and outside state employees have been given luxurious accommodation at TRC on which the department has to spent lakhs of rupees per month. Why don’t they shift these employees to Radio Colony quarters and save lakhs on account of rent,” he asked.
