BJP, Panthers oppose any move to revoke AFSPA from J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 21: The announcement of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for gradual withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from certain districts of state, has not gone well with BJP and Panthers party, who have decided to oppose any such move. Omar on Friday while addressing Police Commemoration Day function at Srinagar, has stated that the laws imposed in the State on the start of militancy (AFSPA) will go from certain areas within next a few days. “With the gradual improvement in the security situation and return of peace, some laws (AFSPA) are being removed from some areas within next a few days”, he said adding that return of peaceful situation has paved the way in this direction and these laws would be revoked from all parts of the State with the restoration of peace and tranquility. “The return of peace in the State is due to the sacrifices of Jammu and Kashmir Police along with other forces”, he said elaborating that the J&K Police is capable of maintaining peaceful situation and blunting any threat in this regard. He said there is no need of any fear on this count. When asked to comment on the issue, Jitendra Singh, BJP state chief spokesperson and national executive member has expressed his concern over the statement saying that it will strengthen the militant forces in the state. He said that GoC Srinagar Gen Hasnain is on record having stated that there is at present an all -time high built-up of potential infiltrators on the LoC. He said that any final decision regarding deployment or withdrawal of troops from militancy prone areas is never a sole prerogative of any political party or political leader and asked the union Home Minister P.Chidambaram to clarify the media reports that he had assured the J&K chief minister of withdrawal of AFSPA from thee districts each in Kashmir and Jammu divisions respectively despite his own party colleague and Defence Minister A.K. Antony not in favour of a hasty decision in the matter, Meanwhile JKNPP chairman Bhim Singh lambasted the Chief Minister’s statement and said that the government is behaving in totally unacceptable manner. “Is he a defence minister who is making such statements on a sensitive issue which is concerned with the security of the whole nation? Could anybody believe that a chief minister who says that the J&K state is not the integral part of the country has his proper consciousness, I don't think so”, Singh said. Singh said that this completely a political gimmick as he knows that secretariat will move for Jammu within days, after that nobody will take it seriously adding that he just trying to divert the attention of people for the remaining summer session of the secretariat. “If there a fact, is only that the Chief Minister is a non-credible Chief Minister ever among the Chief Ministers the state had till the moment” he added.
