| Border police posts to be strengthened in Jammu Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, October 21 : Following reports that between 600 and 800 militants, equipped with sophisticated weapons, have been brought on the launch pads across the LOC the state authorities have activated the border police posts and all police stations situated close to the border in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials posted in the Border police posts and police stations have been directed to move around in the border villages for collecting specific intelligence inputs on the plans and activities of militants.
Official sources said that they have been asked to cooperate with the security forces, especially the Army deployed on the LOC. Sources said that the moment men in the police posts come to know about the hideouts or about the routes from which the militants were trying to cross into Jammu an Kashmir that information should be immediately passed on to the Army.
Senior police functionaries have suggested to the officials posted in the border police posts an in the police stations to strengthen field sources so that they could get specific information about the designs and plans of militants.
Sources said that both troops and the officials posted in the border police posts and police stations have been put on high alert following reports that besides the Pakistani Army groups of border smugglers were trying to assist militants in crossing into Jammu and Kashmir.
They said that these agencies wanted to facilitate ratio of 500 to 700 militants into Jammu and Kashmir within next two months before the border routes became impassable owing to heavy snow.
One report said that militants were being trained in the arms training camps in trekking on deep snow for which they have been provided with snow shoes. In the past groups of militants crossed into Kashmir in mid winter either by skating or by using sledges.
