Power Grid Inter-Regional TT Tournament | Ronel Singh of ER-II retains singles title | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SANJEEV SHARMA Sports & Allied News JAMMU, Oct 21: Representing Eastern Region-II, Ronel Singh today lifted the men’s singles title for fourth consecutive time in the Power Grid Inter-Regional Table Tennis Tournament concluded today at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here. In the singles final, Ronel defeated equally good J Mukherjee of Corporate Centre 4-1 in best of seven game. Mukherjee’s handicap (right hand) hardly came his way as he fought like a normal player. Holding the ball in same left hand, he was serving with, Mukherjee enjoyed the crowd support, especially when he leveled the score 1-1 winning the second set. The score: 11-4, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-8. Third place went to Charanjeet Singh, who beat RS Bisht in the hardliner 3-0 (11-9, 11-8, 11-7). Earlier, in the semi-finals, Ronel beat R S Bisht of Corporate Sector 4-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-6, 11-6) while Mukherjee outplayed his team mate from Corporate Sector, Charanjeet 4-2 (11-1, 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 7-11, 11-8). Pairing with AG Rao of ER-II, Ronel Singh defeated J Mukherjee and RS Bisht of Corporate Centre 3-2 (9-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6, 11-6) to bag the doubles title. Third place was bagged by the duo of VF Desouja and Amit Gupta of POSOCO beating S Mathews and Hemant Jain of NR-II. Ronel, who is also singles champion in the Power Sector Table Tennis Championship for the last four years, could not lead his side to victory in team championship. In the team event, it was Mukherjee’s Corporate Sector that lifted the winners’ trophy. In the final and prize distribution function, Executive Director of Northern Region-II was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. Prominent among others present were General Manager (D&M), Jagmohan Sharma, Assistant General Manager (Engineering), AK Srivastav and DGM (Finance), Parmod Kumar as also joint secretary of State Sports Council, Siddharth Sharma, secretary, J&K Table Tennis Association, Ajay Sharma and Satish Gupta.
