Elections for governing body of Cooperative Schools demanded
10/21/2011 9:18:25 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Oct 21: A day before the general body meeting of Cooperative
Public Schools, the employees and the parents whose wards studying in
these schools have demanded immediate conduct of elections for
Governing Body which was dissolved last year.
The employees and the parents apprehended that the general body
meeting, the first-ever since the dissolution of governing body, has
been convened by the government-appointed administrators to hide their
alleged “malpractices” in last one year.
“We appeal all the parents to vigorously raise the issue of election
for governing body and press for the demand of early elections as the
administrators, whose tenure was only for six months, are still
holding important positions which have impaired the functioning of
Cooperative Public Schools,” a parent said requesting anonymity.
Interestingly, the employees of these schools have also written a
letter, though anonymous, to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seeking
a high level probe into the alleged bungling and mismanagement in
these schools.
It may be placed here that the parents of wards studying in
Cooperative Public Schools had repeatedly raised the issue of shortage
of staff and infrastructure in these institutions.
On September 28 last, the government had ordered an inquiry into the
alleged mal-functioning of the Board of Directors, leading to several
irregularities in the affairs of the Cooperative Public Schools in the
region.
The probe was ordered on the directions of the Minister of State (Ind
Charge) for Cooperatives Manohar Lal Sharma. There are five branches
of Cooperative Public Schools in Jammu city.
The Minister taking serious note of the issue had directed the
Registrar Cooperative Societies (J&K), M Abbas to initiate an inquiry
into the matter and submit report within a week. The Registrar had
constituted two-member inquiry committee to probe into the allegations
and state of affairs in the Cooperative schools.
Joint Registrar, Cooperative Societies (Spl), Jammu and Deputy
Registrar (Agri) Cooperative Societies, Jammu were appointed as
members of the Committee.
