Awareness programme on Right to Information Act held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 21: Career counseling and placement cell of Govt College for Women Parade Jammu organized a one day awareness programme on right to Information Act. Balwinder Singh RTI Activist gave an introduction on RTI and explained with what great difficulties RTI movement started in J&K and how they lobbied with various groups to bring about the J&K RTI Act 2009. He also explained how national level activists like Aruna Roy etc had worked for bringing this kind of revolutionary law. He also explained the provisions of J&K RTI Act 2009 and central RTI Act 2005 and stressed upon the college teachers and students to use RTI for making the authorities accountable. He also said that they are in discussion with authorities to come up with solutions so that there is no misuse of the RTI Act.
Earlier in her inaugural address Kiran Bakshi stressed upon the need to know about the power of RTI act and its uses.
She said that this RTI awareness program has been organized to help to learn how to become empowered and to use RTI effectively to solve day to day problems.
