J&K Bank makes permanent appointments on temporary basis! | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Bank Limited has added another 'feather to its cap' by making permanent appointments on temporary basis! In its letter of offer to the banking associates selected recently by the Bank, it has been stated that the selected candidates are appointed on a temporary basis and would be entitled to draw Rs. 7200 per month plus performance linked Rs. 1800. The Bank has sent a very confusing and ambiguous letter of selection to the persons selected by it as banking associates. The letter of offer further says that the selected candidates would be on probation for a period of six months extendable by a further period of three months at the discretion of the Bank. How can anybody selected on a temporary basis be put on a period of probation? To make the confusion worse, the Bank has also said in its letter of offer that the selected banking associates will be governed by the defined contribution retirement benefit scheme and contributions towards the retirement fund are to be made at the rate of 10% of the pay with equal contribution by the Bank. How can a person selected on temporary basis be asked to contribute 10% towards any retirement benefit scheme? The letter of offer comes from the premier banking institution of the State and yet its drafting has resulted in apprehensions about the financial status of the Bank. Why have candidates been selected for permanent jobs on a temporary basis especially with respect to the drawal of their emoluments? It is perfectly understandable to treat services of selected candidates as temporary till the period of probation is completed to the satisfaction of the Bank, but linking of the salary to the temporary status and thereby its being slashed down to almost half of what a banking associate would draw once directly put in the grade has come as a rude shock to the people of the State who have lodged all their life's savings with the J&K Bank Limited. Would the management clarify the reasons for paying stipend to candidates otherwise selected on permanent assignments? |
