Responsibilities of police will add after revocation of AFSPA: IGP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Oct 22: Inspector General Police Kashmir Range, S M Sahai Saturday said that responsibilities of police will add after revocation of AFSPA. Talking to KNS Sahai said, “It is decision of the government. However, when such a decision will be taken police will be taken into confidence as our responsibilities will add after that.” The IGP revealed that less than 50 people arrested during last year’s summer unrest were in police custody. “Stone pelting incidents in the Valley has declined to a great extent this year. Rest of the people were released in phased manner. Those who are still in custody and aren’t involved in any serious crime will also be released soon,” he said Sahai said that Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues played a great role in maintaining peace in the Valley. He thanked government and the people for their cooperation due to which, he said, situation improved this year. “However, there area some areas still where parents need to make their children understand that they should not create any law and order problem,” he said. On harassment of Kashmiri youth outside the state, the IGP said, “We have sent letters to police heads of different states so that such problems don’t happen in future. However, if National Investigating Agency (NIA) has proof against any Kashmir, J&K police will fully cooperate in that,” he added.
