Traffic management reviewed

Ramban, Oct 22: Deputy Commissioner, Ramban Shabir Ahmad Bhat, KAS, today convened a meeting of the officers of Rev. Deptt., Traffic and District Police, BRO and NHAI to review the traffic management in Ramban district.
The Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, expressed his deep concern on road accidents during the last one month in which about 40 persons have lost their lives and many more have got injured.
He also emphasized for taking immediate measures for averting road accidents in this district.
The SSP, Traffic NH, Kifayat Hyder, stated at the meeting that most of the accidents on National Highway occur due to rash and negligent driving and suggested that driving licenses particularly of passenger vehicles should be issued after proper test of skills by a board of officers comprising of MVD, Traffic police and District police.
He also suggested that similar procedures should be adopted for passing of vehicles. It was decided at the meeting that heavy trollers should not be allowed to ply on the highway from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. so as to avoid traffic jams on the highway.
S.P Ramban, suggested that the movement of vehicles particularly of trucks should be regulated from Srinagar, Qazigund, Udhampur and Jammu in such a manner that there are no traffic jams and road accidents on the National Highway.
The officers of the BRO were directed to construct additional crash barriers and parapets on the already identified locations to avert accidents and loss of human lives.
It was also decided at the meeting that orders regarding overloading and use of mobile phones by the drivers shall be strictly implemented and joint teams of traffic police, district police and officers of Rev. Department shall be constituted to conduct surprise checking of vehicles.
The Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, directed officers of various departments to work in unison in traffic management of this district and averting road accidents.
The meeting was attended by SSP, Traffic NH, Kifayat Hyder, S.P, Ramban, Anil Magotra, ADC, Ramban, Bashir Ahmed Khan and officers of National Highway and BRO.
