Ladakhis’ Sports Meet: Singay XI lifts football trophy

JAMMU, Oct 22: Beating MMYC 3-2 in the final, Singay XI lifted the football trophy in the week-long annual sports meet, organised by All Ladakh Students Association of Jammu at University of Jammu grounds, here today.
Down by three goals, MMYC struck twice in the second half of the game to reduce the margin making it 3-2. Skarma Lotus scored two goals while Stanzin Tsepak netted one for the winners while Jigmat Namgyal reduced the margin beating the goal-keeper twice. The second goal for MMYC came through a penalty kick.
Earlier, in the semi-finals, MMYC beat Oasis by a solitary goal while Singay XI blanked Nagrota Club 3-0.
VOLLEYBALL: The boys’ volleyball trophy went to UDS XI after they defeated Royal Club in the final. Rigzin Angelus declared best player of the event. In girls final, PN Group emerged winner outplaying Health Group. Tsering Dolker was adjudged best player.
ATHLEICS: Girls: 100 mts: Nawang Tsomo, Ist; Tsering Angmo, 2nd and Stanzin Namrsas, 3rd. Boys: Stanzin Rabgyas, Ist; Rigzin Tamehos, 2nd and Tsewang Tundup, 3rd.
TUG OF WAR: Girls: Tug of War: Jammu University beat PN Group 2-0. Boys: Bull Force beat Nagrota 2-0.
SACK RACE: Girls: Stanzin Namtsas, Ist; Nawang Tsomo, 2nd; Kunzes Angmo and Sonam Angmo, joint 3rd. Boys: Jigmet Stanzin, Ist; Tsewang Tundup, Nurboo Tundup, joint 3rd and Tsering Mutup, 3rd.
There was a strong but decent crowd of around 1000 young Ladakhi spectators, who remained there for over three hours to encourage the athletes competing in different events.
In the football final and valedictory function, Director Sports and Physical Education of the University of Jammu, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies.
International football player of the state, Arun Malhotra and Assistant Director Sports and Physical Education, Dr Sonam Angchok were guests of honour.
Prominent among others present were Deputy Director Travel Affairs Jammu, Urgyan Lhundup, Superintendent of Police, P Sonam, Assistant Professor, Bhaderwah Campus, Tsering, Zonal Education Officers, Tsering Dorje and Paldan.
Earlier, general secretary of the All Ladakh Students Association, Padma Tsewang presented a detailed report of the week-long event and expressed gratitude to the University of Jammu for extending a helping hand.
