| Grant Jammu B-1 status: NMC | | |
JAMMU, JAN 4 National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) organisation today demanded that the city be declared a B-1 city as its population had "crossed" 10 lakh, making it eligible. "The population of Jammu is now more than 12 lakh. Despite having a population of over 10 lakhs and being eligible for B-1 status, the city comes under the B-2 category," NMC president Subash Shastri told reporters here. "There is no justification that Jammu should be deprived of its right of being a B-1 city," he said. He said with the grant of B-1 status, government employees in the city would get added benefits and the state would also get enhanced grants for development. Shastri demanded the government raise the minimum wages and added that under Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Jammu and Kashmir will be the "first" state in the entire country to implement the recommendations of the Sixth pay commission simultaneously with the Centre. |
