Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 22: The two day state Working Committee meeting of BJP wrapped up on reiteration of demand that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah should resign immediately and CBI enquiry be held into Haji Yousuf's death in custody. While Omar remained under the attack during the elaborate sessions in the meeting on a host of issues, the leaders fired a volley once again on his tweeting habit, asserting J&K doesn't a need a tweeting Chief Minister…….it needs a serious and politically mature person who is able to identify the real issues confronting the state and guide resolve them .
These demands and observations targetting Omar Abdullah by the party are not new nor is it that party leadership has aired them for the first time. What makes these as somewhat look as a first striking blow is the tone and tenor as also the move made with regard to resolution passed in the meeting as also a little 'popped up' tone in hitting out at him in the backdrop of serious issue of death in custody and lately the talk of revocation of AFSPA from some areas of the state.
"J&K is an extremely sensitive state full of problems and loaded with sensitivities on almost all issues……the people of the state cannot afford to have tweeting CM …….", said RP Singh, senior leader and Seh Prabhari (co incharge J&K affairs), after the meeting while explaining the need to have passed a resolution for his resignation.
Abdullahs cannot exonerate themselves of the storm raked up due to death of their own party worker in mysterious circumstances as well as in the background of the charges leveled against tehdecsead……both father and son may well say they have no direct involvement in the charges of political corruption but they are bound to explain why and how did they keep a man in the party who had been taking money for posts of minister or MLC", BJP leader observed, adding it is not about their involvement or non involvement but it is a matter of political perception. "Haji Yousuf was a conduit and a dealer ….he was seen in close quarters of Abdullahs…..that is what evidences show and it is only CBI enquiry that can bring truth to the fore", RP Singh said.
The issue of AFSPA revocation was also discussed threadbare in the meeting though no resolution was passed with regard to this. However, the party is general is opposed to the idea and announcement made none other than the Chief Minister himself. "Chief Minister's assertion about normalcy in Kashmir is hollow……..it is BJP's perception that real normalcy can be declared the day Kashmiri Pandits settle down back in their homes in Valley ", said the BJP incharge. We cannot ignore the Army chief's assessment about the situation. Authorities in Army have been consistently saying that near about 3000 people are ready to cross the border and enter the state on this side……." he said adding 'if this is the scene how can Chief Minister take the risk of taking such a big and sensitive decision.
