Army chopper strayed into PoK, returns to India | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar: The Indian Army helicopter, which strayed into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir due to "inclement weather" on Sunday has been sent back to India, Pakistan Army has confirmed. The confirmation was made by the spokesperson of Pakistani Army. Earlier in the day, the helicopter with four-member crew onboard was forced to land in PoK by Pakistan military. The Cheetah helicopter, part of the Indian Army's 666 Siachen Falcons squadron, was flying from Kargil to Leh when it strayed into PoK due to bad weather. While some reports said the helicopter landed in bad weather across the Line of Control (LoC), other reports said the chopper was forced to land by Pakistani forces after it violated Pakistani air space. The Pakistani forces are reported to be interrogating the four-member crew – all soldiers, among them a pilot and co-pilot. Reports however added that all crew members are safe. "The helicopter had come deep into our air space. It was forced to land. Four Indian Army officers have been taken into safe custody. They are safe," Pakistan military spokesman Major-General Athar Abbas was quoted as saying. Abbas said the incident occurred in northern Skardu region and India had been informed. "Investigations are underway," he added. Indian Army sources have said the helicopter straying into PoK wasn’t a deliberate violation of Pakistani air space. Also, sources said the Ministry of External Affairs has established contact with Pakistani authorities to secure the safe and early release of Indian soldiers. Reports originating from Pakistan said the soldiers would be released after talks. Even India has downplayed the detention of Army soldiers.
