| Senior journalist felicitated | | | Jammu, January 4 Senior Journalist Shyam Koul was felicitated here at a function organised by SABZAAR, a Kashnmir based NGO, at Jammu club on Thursday for his outstanding contribution in the area of print journalism in the state. Vice Chancellor of the Jammu University Prof Amitabh Mattoo was the chief guest and Prof Riyaz Punjabi of JNU and President peace studies presided over the delibrations. President of the SABZAAR Prof BL Zutshi in his welcome address highlighted the various aspects of Shyam Kouls' personality while reading out the citation highlighting contribution of the multi facet personality. Prof Zutshi dwelt on the humane and objective approach in his writings and said that despite the tumultous 17 years of exile Shyam Koul is a symbol of serenity of Manasbal lake. Other speakes present onthe occasion included veteran journalist Mr Sati Sawhney, Editor in chief of the Kashmir Times group Mr Ved Bhasin and academicians like Prof HL Misri,Ms Qurat-ul-ain and prof Ashok Munshi highlighted the personality of Shyam Koul. In his brief speech Mr Sawhney said that Mr Koul has never misused his authority despite enjoying close proximity with the powers be at the helm. "He is a role model to many young journalists and still inspires many with his discipline". In his address, Bhasin said, “I congratulate SABZAAR for felicitaing Koul. He said "young journalsits should take lessons from Koul on how to write objectively balancing views of both the sides" Vice Chancellor Prof AMitabh Mattoo said," he is genious". His writings had left an immense impact on him and he still read him regularly. Prof Riyaz Punjabi said, i salute the qualities of Mr Shyam Koul and hoped that such events are also organised in Srinagar in the memory of veteran journalsit Shamin Ahmed Shamin. Shyam Koul extended his thanks to all those present on the occasion. The proceedings were conducted by Prof Indu Kilam, secretary General SABZAAR. Prof A Angral presented the vote of thanks.Several other eminent academicians, legal luminaries, social activists and senior journalists attended the function among various others.
