Separatists plan to upset Omar's political gains from AFSPA withdrawal | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, October 24:In a bid to deprive the ruling National Conference in general and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, in particular from securing public support and political gains once the AFSPA was withdrawn from a few districts, the separatists have started campaigning in favour of withdrawing the Act from the entire state. Chief of Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani, has made it known that his conglomerate will continue to campaign for total withdrawal of AFSPA and DAA from the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir. This way the separatists want to frustrate Omar Abdullah whose aim was to leave the separatists with no issue to hammer on when the AFSPA was withdrawn from some areas in the state. Even if the AFSPA was withdrawn along with DAA from four to six districts in the state the separatists have a number of issues to rake up. Reports said that Omar is in favour of withdrawing AFSPA from the urban areas of at least six districts in the state. These areas include Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Jammu, Samba and Kathua. According to these reports, the central team is not in favour of withdrawing AFSPA from Ganderbal and Kathua districts on the plea that while the former falls on Kupwara-Srinagar route the latter is close to the International Border which, of late, has witnessed series of infiltration bids. The separatists, according to reports, plan to launch agitation while demanding withdrawal of troops from the civilian areas of the state and release of all detainees. However, Omar Abdullah is said to have formulated a plan under which the exercise on withdrawal of troops from some urban belts could be started from the next spring season in case the state did not witness any increase in militancy related violence and activities. At the same time Chief Minister has been suggested to go slow on the issues of withdrawal of AFSPA, DAA and troops because reports have revealed that militants planned to go in for crash recruitment drive. This drive was needed to increase the manpower of the militant outfits required to intensify subversive violence. It is in this context that the Government has decided to implement the new employment policy shortly so that sever al thousand educated youths could get jobs even on contract basis.
