BJP cautions against revocation of AFSPA
10/24/2011 9:18:15 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Oct 24: Cautioning against withdrawal of controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from “certain areas” in Jammu and Kashmir, state unit of the BJP today said such a move would be a “big blunder.”
Talking to KNS state BJP president Shamsher Singh Manhas said, “The security situation in the state has not improved. There are reports of increased infiltration by militants and cross-border terror is still intact. Revoking AFSPA at the moment will be a big blunder.”
“If AFSPA is revoked from border areas it won’t only hamper the security of the state but whole country. Reports suggest that large number of militants are waiting to infiltrate and revocation of AFSPA at such a time will have serous consequences on the overall security scenario,” he added.
Manhas said BJP will launch major mass-contact programmes from November two against rising corruption in the state.
