Two new Bhand Pather plays staged | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KUPWARA, Oct 24:Two new Bhand Pather plays viz Naav-Laj-Danji and Daaj Pather today enlivened the Kupwara valley of Kashmir with their striking new themes and styles. The first play Naav-Laj-Daanj written and directed by Manzoor Ahmed Bhat was staged at Shatwaari Nagri, Kupwara by Dilkash Folk Theatre. The second play Daaj-Pather written and directed by Bilal Ahmed Mir was presented at Trukpora, Rajwarh in Kupwara by Gulistan Bhaghat Theatre. The shows were organized by Natrang Jammu in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi. Natrang director Balwant Thakur is personally supervising the performances. The first play of the day ‘Naav-Laj-Daanj’ awakened the public about their birth rights, particularly the voting rights which ultimately empowers them to rule. The play opens at a scene where people are shown seeking some intervention in the decision making of government. The Maskharas (Narrators) sensitize them about the concept of the powers of the public which they can acquire only by participating in elections. The second play of the day was ‘Daaj Pather’ was presented by Gulistan Baghat Theatre at Turkpora, Kupwara. The play was against giving and taking of the dowry and showcased the miseries of a father who loses his life in the struggle of meeting the demands of dowry. The Bhands appealed the audience to stand out and fight against prevalent dowry system.
