DYSS makes badminton `outdoor’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 24: After the denial of state owned infrastructure by the autonomous sports body of J&K State Sports Council, the Department of Youth Services and Sports today conducted the badminton competition on the lawns of primary wing of Guru Harkrishan Public School, here today. It was after a gap of 30 years that the badminton was made an outdoor game by `unaware’ officers of the DYSS throwing all rules to winds. Presently, the department is holding competition in three age groups of under-14, under-17 and under-19 categories of boys and girls. Finding it difficult to play in open amidst strong winds that too under Sun, the teachers incharge of the participating schools were left with no other option but to lodge a protest. The protesting team managers made the organizers to stop the competition citing reasons that the conditions and infrastructure were improper. They even approach the higher officials of the DYSS. Heading both Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) and the State Sports Council, the Minister for Sports, R S Chib seems unconcerned and least bothered about the sufferings of young sportspersons. Despite made aware of the ongoing fight between the two wings of sports in the state, Minister continues to sit on the issue. The `divide and rule policy’ of the Minister has added to the miseries of the budding players and taking toll of the sports. It may be recalled that the Minister was made aware of the victimization of young sportspersons due to fight by the media in a press conference. Subsequently, he had assured to solve the issue without further delay. It is pertinent to mention here that the autonomous body of State Sports Council, which manages the state owned sports infrastructure, has denied the playing facility to the DYSS.
