| Jamboo appropriate name of what we call Jammu city | | Defeating Anti-Jammu Forces | | Neha
Jammu, Oct 24: Yesterday, Panthers Party president and MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia mooted a noble idea of changing the name of Jammu city saying it has become absolutely imperative in the larger interest of the people of Jammu province and to defeat the evil designs of the Kashmiri leadership which is implanting ruthlessly the policy of divide and rule in order to erode the age-old identity of Jammu province and weaken the ongoing movement in the province for its empowerment within the state if possible and outside the present politico-administrative set-up, if necessary. He suggested that Jamboo would be an appropriate name for the Jammu city. It is important to note that this city of temples was known as Jamboo city centuries ago and it was named after Raja Jamboo Lochan. The argument of Mankotia was that such a change would defeat the anti-Jammu province forces and harmonize inter-communal relations. BJP MLA Jugal Kishore Sharma also hailed the idea as mooted by Mankotia. They were speaking in a function organized by the Jammu Kashmir People's Forum (JKPF) to celebrate the accession day. Their suggestions evoked tremendous applause. And, why not? After all, they had talked sense.
It needs to be underlined that there are elements in Jammu province who have been working overtime to defeat the ongoing empower-Jammu province-movement. They are working as agents of the Kashmir-based parties, political or otherwise, which want to erode the identity of Jammu by creating inter-communal bitterness and animosity in the province . They indulge in vicious propaganda to mislead the people of Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban Poonch and Rajouri that the people of Jammu (read Jammu city) are responsible for their neglect, poverty and under-development. They do not hold the Kashmiri-dominated and Valley-centric government and administration responsible for the neglect of these areas.
Whenever the Jammu leadership asks the authorities in the state to end discrimination with Jammu through political instruments like separate assembly or adequately empowered regional council or provincial council, these agents of Kashmiri leadership at once up their ante and say Jammu city is not the Jammu province and that they do not subscribe to their view. This has been going on since long. It happened in September 27 and 28 this year also when the Panthers Party MLAs demanded separate Assembly for Jammu province saying the NC and the PDP were interested only in implementing their respective agendas and not in the well-being of the people of Jammu province. Remember, it was the NC MLA from Poonch who immediately stood up, opposed the Panthers Party and said the two and a half districts in Jammu province could not dictate terms. He said what Sheikh Abdullah and other Kashmiri leaders say to counter the demand in Jammu province for empowerment and integration into India.
The ill-designed and ill-conceived demands in these areas, including the demands for the setting up of "Chenab Valley Autonomous Hill Development Council" for the erstwhile Doda district and "Pir Panjal Autonomous Hill Development Council" for the Poonch-Rajouri areas, need to be viewed in this context. Those who are putting forth these demands are not the well-wishers of Jammu province; they are their worst enemies; they are simply seeking to seal their fate by putting all their eggs into the Kashmiri basket. They need to be isolated, even ex-communicated for their unholy alliance with the Kashmiri leadership.
As for the suggestion mooted by Mankotia and endorsed by the BJP MLA, it needs to be appreciated by one and all in Jammu province. Change of name from Jammu city to Jamboo would create an environment in Jammu province that would show the Kashmiri agents operating in Jammu province their rightful place and help the marginalized people of this province achieve what they have failed to achieve because of the negative role being played by the NC and the PDP legislators who right now represent seven out of 37 constituencies of Jammu province in the assembly. They are responsible for the under-development of the areas, they say, they represent. They only represent themselves and their vested interests as well as the interests of the canny and essentially anti-Jammu Kashmiri leadership. Change of the winter capital from Jammu City to Jamboo world solve many a problem and, hence, it would be only desirable if everyone in the province endorses this suggestion and works for the change of name. Once the name of the winter capital is changed, no one would be in a position to counter the demand in Jammu province for its empowerment. The other alternative is rename Jammu province as Duggar Pradesh. |
