Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 24: When chief minister Omar Abdullah today announced a Rs 30 lakh financial aid to Amar Singh Club (ASC) in Srinagar, it generated hopes in the winter capital that ASC here too may get a similar help.
And, there was no reason for Omar for not extending a similar financial help to the ASC here.
If he could give money for the development of Srinagar ASC, he should not hesitate from giving such a help to Jammu ASC too, a club member said.
Omar was the chief minister of Jammu as well and it was hoped that he would come true to the expectations of the Jammu ASC too, he added.
Earlier, he termed Srinagar ASC as the focal point for social activities and called for restoring its past glory.
Addressing club members on the conclusion of annual general meeting, he of the Rs 30 lakh assistance, Rs 15 lakh would be from the Srinagar Parliamentary Member's Constituency Development Fund.
He also floated the idea of constitution of a society to run the club affairs and election of a non-government president, saying it was difficult for a chief minister to devote his time to the club as its president.
"I am sharing this idea with you simply as a thought. It is not any suggestion or proposal," he said and added that non-government management and president could devote full time to the club affairs.
He said he wanted to see Srinagar ASC functioning like Delhi Jumkhana or Delhi Golf Club.
He said government would provide a grant to the club equal to the funds it raised from its own sources for the establishment of health club.
The chief minister also donated Rs 20,000 for this purpose from his own pocket as a club member and asked other members to raise the funds to the maximum.
He said government would extend all support to the club for its infrastructural development and expanding social activities.
"The club has seen bad times in the valley like other concerns. Hopefully, better days are ahead and the club will also witness progress along with other sectors in the state," he hoped.
