Soz differs with Omar over AFSPA | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 25: Revocation of AFSPA is likely to have a serious bearing on the ruling coalition. The Congress Chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz today said the concerns of the Armed Forces need to be addressed before revocation of AFSPA. "There have to be consultations with the Defense Minister. The armed forces have some reservations and these have to be considered before the Act can be revoked," Soz said. He said the Chief Minister should consult the Defense Minister as well. Pertinent to mention Omar has already consulted the Home Minister. "AFSPA has to ultimately go. It has to go one day when there is normalcy. If Omar is convinced that militancy has receded, AFSPA can be withdrawn but not before consultations with the Defense Minister and the defense forces," Soz said. Informed sources said Omar had not consulted his coalition partner over the issue. The Chief Minister announced that the AFSPA will be revoked from some areas of the state within next few days. |
