JK switching over to new BPL scheme NRLM | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Oct 27:Jammu and Kashmir is poised to switch over to National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) a flagship programme to replace Swran Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojna (SGSY) from December this year. In the first phase 10 percent blocks of the state would be covered under NRLM on pilot basis where 100 percent BPL population will be covered for integrated improvement in their livelihood. This was stated at the first Governing Body Meeting of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Budgam today. The District Development Commissioner, Budgam, Mohammad Rafi, who is also chairman of the DRDA, Budgam presided. The Director, DRDA, Government of India Jagdish Sing while briefing about the salient features of the new programme said that under NRLM loan assistance for BPL beneficiaries has been enhanced from Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh who would also be entitled to a subsidy of Rs 15000 instead of existing Rs 7500 besides 7% interest subsidy. The meeting was informed that under NRLM, thrust would be on promotion of Self Help Groups adding that beneficiaries would be imparted training in Micro Enterprises with Job placement assurance. Speaking on the occasion, the chairman of DRDA, Budgam, said that the Rural Self Employment Training Institute at Budgam would be commissioned by the end of December this year. He asked the officers and field functioning of Rural Development to gear up for capacity building for launching the flagship NRLM.
