Srinagar court to hear case today
Yusuf killing row
10/28/2011 12:54:49 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 27: A petition preferred by the relatives of deceased National Conference (NC) worker Haji Yusuf will come up for hearing tomorrow (October 28). Yusuf died allegedly in Crime Branch custody on September 20 after a row with the Chief Minister at his Gupkar residence.
The death caused a political storm in Kashmir. Noisy scenes were witnessed in both houses of the Legislative Assembly. The government was forced to order a judicial probe into the `killing'. Yusuf's son, Syed Talib, however, rejected the probe. Talking to Early Times last week, he said: "Mourning is still on. Once it ends, the family will seek judicial intervention for justice." The family, it is pertinent to mention, has sought a CBI probe to unveil the `truth'.
A petition has already been preferred in a Srinagar court which is likely to come up for hearing tomorrow. The petition has added to the woes of the Chief Minister and his father, Dr Farooq Abdullah. Farooq has been reportedly told to come clean on allegations if he is interested in staying in the union cabinet. The opposition has been demanding resignation of Omar Abdullah and his MoS Home, Nasir Aslam Wani .
Yusuf was a staunch supporter of National Conference and defied militant threats in early 90s. He was very close to the Sheikh family. On September 29 he went to the Chief Minister's residence to discuss an alleged money deal. Reports said Yusuf insisted on former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq's presence which angered Omar. Yusuf was finally handed over to Crime Branch where he succumbed.
