Omar has landed himself in trouble by not taking 'main actors' on board: Soz | No consultation with party, Kamaal's statement leaves Congress fumed | | Saroj Razdan Jammu, Oct 27: In what can be seen as an inevitable political fallout for not having consulted its key ally Congress before making announcement on AFSPA, a fumed Congress leadership today openly criticized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah what it termed as his 'unilateral' decision which he took without taking the main 'players and actors' on board. PCC chief and veteran party leader Prof Saif-u-Din Soz said Omar has landed himself in 'big trouble' by choosing to do so. Breaking his silence today Jammu and Kashmir state Congress President Saifuddin Soz said that Omar did not consult the party before announcing that AFSPA would be removed from some parts of the state. " It is no smaller issue ….it is a sensitive and very ticklish matter which cannot be decided by just one person…..", Prof Soz said, taking on Chief Minister , perhaps for the first time . The senior Congress leader , also the chairman of the Coordination Committee who has always been seen defending the ruling partner on a number of controversial issues in the past, apparently in the interests of running coalition government smoothly, broke this 'tradition', by questioning what the Chief Minister did on his own, without even consulting its alliance partner in the Coordination panel. "How can he declare AFSPA would go before Durbaar Move……he did not deem it proper to put the matter first before Coordination Committee nor did he seek the consent or consensus of his cabinet colleagues....", PCC chief questioned while speaking to Early Times. It is not only Chief Minister but all others have to feel and give their opinion whether the right time has come to revoke AFSPA or not…..there has to be broader consensus on the issue, Soz observed adding that the issue is so important that it warrants consensus of all. Bitter and angry over his unilateral comment that has now created a political furore, Soz remarked sarcastically, " there is no game in the world which can be played by one player nor can the game be won by making scores by one individual". " He made a sudden announcement without telling us……he did not even consult it with Unified command……..most surprising aspect remains he chose to ignore Defence Ministry which is the key actor or player in such matters", the PCC chief said angrily, observing Omar went overboard which is not acceptable. Prof Soz said had Omar followed all these steps he would have been on a stronger footing today but whatever he has done has only created confusion on all accounts which have led to 'bad' situation on more than one front. " We just witnessed series of blasts and grenade attacks which shattered and pierced peace once again….on the top of it what comes as shocking and most ridiculous is the statement coming from a NC leader none other than the spokesperson of the party Dr Mustafa Kamal which has worsened the scenario further…….this is not acceptable at all……", a visibly perturbed Prof Soz lamented. A seasoned politician, Prof SOz however said he and his party was well aware of the fact that militancy has receded and normalcy is gaining ground. These laws were devised and imposed at a point of time when situation warranted so……these laws have to go….. but a consensus has to woven to determine whether that time has come, he asserted.Emphasizing need for 'braoder consensus' Prof Soz said there is need to hold wide ranging consultations at the state level first followed by discussion with concerned quarters at central level before a final decision on revocation of AFSPA. |
