NC leaders came late, showed little 'enthusiasm'
In boycott mood or uncomfortable with PDP presence….?

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 28: In the Diwali Milan hosted by PCC chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz on Thursday even as the alliance partner NC showed their presence but contrary to opposition PDP's whole hearted and full participation, the leaders of Congress' own ally NC not only came late but looked uneasy and uncomfortable.
Sources said that the time for the party as per the invitation was 8 pm, the senior leaders of NC who matter made their 'appearance' quite late, which was seen by observers as mere 'token' presence. This was in contrast to thick presence of Jammu based leaders of opposition party PDP who came well in time and were seen much enthusiastic and in participatory mood in the get together. Significantly, it is for the first time PDP attended any such occasion hosted by the leader of ruling party.
Sources said even though few NC leaders had come early but their presence did not carry much weight in the high profile political gathering, perhaps seen on such festival for the first time. It assumed significance also on account of the fact that the host was PCC Chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz, with whom PDP leadership and high command is understood to be quite comfortable in comparison to ex chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, for apparent reasons. Sources said by inviting PDP leaders and their attendance in good numbers coupled with their meaningful participation was intended and indeed sent across the message that Congress has not 'distanced' itself from the PDP which was its alliance partner in the previous coalition regime.
However, it was this factor which made NC feel uncomfortable coupled with the developments during the day emerging as an outcome of statements given by Prof Saif-u-Din Soz himself about Congress' reservations on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah not having consulted the party, Coordination Committee over what comments he made suddenly with regard to AFSPA revocation last week. Sources said the leaders of NC in Jammu considered to be in the second rung , probably were in mood to keep away from the party in the backdrop of 'disturbing' reaction from party chief over AFSPA, almost seen as having taken Omar head on for the first time. But for the participation of few NC workers and activists whose profile does not matter, it would have been a sort of NC boycott in the party, sources said adding that it was possibly a last minute thought that eventually made NC 'biggies' finally make their appearance.
They all came together in one lot, reflecting the fact they met at some point before they chose to join the party, sources said. Among this lot was Advisor to Chief Minister Devinder Singh Rana, SS Salathia cabinet minister, senior leaders and ex legislators including Mushtaq Bhukhari, Ajay Sadohtra ,Rashpal Singh etc.
Even though all political parties were invited in the party, neither BJP nor Panthers Party leaders made their presence , sources added. Significantly, neither the leaders nor any supporter of other faction in Congress led by Ghulam Nabi Azad attended the party.
