RBBA organises Diwali Milan | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 29: In connection with the celebrations of 155 years of historical Raghunath Bazar, Raghunath Bazar Businessmen Association (RBBA) organized Diwali Milan programme. About 100 shopkeeper, members of the association participated in the event, where the District Development Commissioner (DDC), Sanjiv Verma was the chief guest. A large number of media persons also joined the Milan. The General Secretary of the association, Sanjay Gupta while welcoming the members of the association said that such functions allow family members of the association to meet and enjoy the festival together. Sachin Khurana, vice president of the association said that on the persistent demand of the association, the state government had approved and chalked out a project of beautification and modernization of historical and oldest bazaar of the city of temples. Stating that Raghunath Bazaar, for over a century, has been the nerve centre of the business activity in the city and a hub of tourists and pilgrims to Mata Vaishno Devi and Shri Amarnath Shrines, he said that pilgrim tourism has become a major source of employment for the people. He said that it is under this backdrop that the project, with an estimated overall cost of Rs.5.78 lakh was drawn by the state government in the year 2009 during the tenure of Baldev Khullar as president, for the beautification of the Bazaar. He stressed for beautification of Raghunath Chowk on priority basis. The vice president emphasized the need of installation of CCTV Cameras in Raghunath Bazar area and a security tower at City Chowk, besides installation of public address system and proper regulation of traffic. He also emphasized the need for declaration of Bazar as tourist area, so that Naga Form is abolished and timing restrictions removed as has been done in the holy town of Katra and on National Highway 1A. Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Sanjeev Verma, in his address assured the association that their genuine demands shall be met and implemented. Verma requested the members to maintain strict vigil to foil the evil designs of unsocial elements and maintain communal harmony for which Jammuites are very well known. He assured the association that the administration will undertake the project of beautification of historical Bazaar on priority bases, to make it a state of art market place in the city of temples, as a place of attraction for the visitors to take round of the Bazaar and have shopping here. He also disclosed that a multi facet project for beautification and modernization of entire old Jammu city and its periphery has been drawn by the Govt, which will go a long way in making Jammu city an independent tourist destination, to offset any lost to the business and importance of the city, after the train reaching Katra. Later Verma presented mementoes and shawls to sponsors of Nano Car Draw. Yash Bhasin, a senior Journalist was also honoured and felicitated on the occasion.
