Govt deliberately ignored celebration of Accession Day
10/29/2011 11:59:24 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 29: Though the people of Jammu have celebrated the Accession Day on October 26 this year in a befitting way like the Diwali festival, the Government has failed to become the part of any such celebrations in the state.
Not to speak of holding of functions to celebrate the day, the government has failed to illuminate the civil secretariat both in Srinagar and Jammu or other government offices in the state on the day. The nationalist people in the state have taken strong exception to the State government’s negative role which ignored to celebrate the Day.
Criticizing the Government for being rigid and avoiding celebrating the people have also criticized the ministers from Jammu for not attending any function on the day. Criticizing congress which is the coalition partner in the Omar Abdullah Government, Ramesh Kumar an RSS activist said that not a single minister from Jammu bothered to attend the function though Accession Day is no less important than Independence Day for the people of State.
He said the people of J&K is supposed to celebrate the Day like the Independence Day as on August 15, 1947 J&K was not part of India and it could not celebrate the independence Day on that day. He said so for the people of the state the Accession Day is as important as Independence Day.
He said the people of the state reaped the fruits of freedom from October 26, 1947 when Maharaja Hari Singh signed the instrument of Accession with Indian Union. This was a historical occasion for the people of the State and it should be celebrated with all fervor and enthusiasm, he added.
Supporting his views Rajesh a VHP activist said that by distancing itself from participating in Accession Day celebrations the Government has sent a wrong signal across the country and it reveals that it has succumbed to the pressure of separatists in the Valley otherwise the ministers had no justification in avoiding the celebrations.
He said that people of Jammu as well as nationalistic forces in the state have decided to celebrate the day like Diwali every year and have demanded that Governemnt should declare a gazette holiday on the day. Some organizations have organised week long celebrations to celebrate the Accession Day but it is unfortunate that the Government has ignored its responsibility towards the Accession Day.
He said the Jammu leaders of NC and Congress are more to blame and people have taken strong exception to their style of functioning as they have shown more loyalty to Kashmiri leadership than to a cause.
