AFSPA would be revoked at an 'appropriate time': Soz | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 29: Pradesh Congress Committee president and Member Parliament, Saif-ud-Din Soz Saturday said that he would call a meeting of coalition coordination committee where different issues will be discussed. He said that decision regarding revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) will be taken at an 'appropriate time.' Soz said, "I as head of the coordination committee will draft the agenda of the meeting and then all the issues will be discussed." Asked whether recent controversy regarding revocation of AFSPA would be discussed in the meeting, he evaded direct answer. "Coordination committee has its own agenda and discussions are held on that only. AFSPA and other laws are not permanent and will go. But it will be revoked only at an appropriate time," he said. "Before revocation of these laws central forces have to be taken into confidence. The laws are against terrorism and to provide security to the general public. But that doesn't mean these are not permanent," he said. Responding to the statement of National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah that he never consulted him, Soz said, "How could I know what Omar Abdullah has to say and where will he say it. I can't go after everyone. This issue was not discussed with the coordination committee or even with the state cabinet. So I asked them it should have been discussed prior to announcement." Asked whether he met Chief Minister in the recent days to discuss the issues with him, he declined to comment.About the alleged custodial death of National Conference worker Sayeed Muhammad Yousuf, he said, "CM has assured that there will be full probe and truth will be brought to the fore. We should wait for it." The state Congress chief declined to comment on rotational CM issue. "High command will take decision on it," he said without elaborating. |
