Kamal's ‘heroics’ worry Abdullahs | | | ET Report JAMMU, Oct 29: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and its newly appointed spokesperson Dr Mustafa Kamal is again in news for his `utterances'. Although the Chief Minister and NC patron have disowned his statement yesterday, Mustafa issue yet another hard hitting statement much to annoyance of the Abdullah family. Kamal had accused the army of `sponsoring' the recent grenade attacks in the summer capital. The attacks left several soldiers wounded. Kamal said the attacks were carried out to defeat NC's crusade' for revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). Kamal's statement hurt the army chief. His concern evoked a response from Omar and Farooq but Kamal seemed unmoved. "If they are hurt, I too am hurt", he said. He accused army of `letting loose a reign of terror' since 1990. "They did not spare women and children. If they have heart, I too have a heart". Mustafa was recently appointed spokesperson to do some hard hitting to counter PDP `tirade'. Surprisingly on Sher-e-Kashmir's anniversary last year, an angry Farooq Abdullah scolded Kamal. He cautioned him against issuing `controversial' statements. He was speaking at a function held to commemorate the 105th birth anniversary of Sher-e-Kashmir. "Mind your words", an angry Farooq told Kamal. However, ten months down the line, Dr Farooq appointed Kamal as the Chief spokesperson of National Conference (NC). To put it plainly, a person who `did not know what to talk and when to talk' has been entrusted with the job of speaking on behalf of Sher-e-Kashmir's party. Expressing his anger during the above mentioned function, Farooq said: "Whenever Kamal issues a statement, the media attribute it to me. But why should I do that." Kamal who was also present at the function listened silently and did not show any reaction. |
