Civilian, four militants killed in Gurez.
Carpenter shot dead at Kangan

SRINAGAR, JULY 31, : Four militants and a civilian were killed in a gunfight at Gurez, Bandipora in North Kashmir during the preceding night. Elsewhere in the valley a carpenter was shot dead by the unidentified gunmen at Kangan in district Ganderbal during the intervening night of July 30 and 31.
According to the reports reaching here, search party of the troops was fired upon by the militants at Gurez on Sunday evening, however, soldiers retaliated the fire, thus triggering an encounter, between the troops and the militants. In the gunfight, which ensued, four militants, whose identity could not be established were killed. Sources further said that a civilian identified as, Ghulam Hassan Ganie son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganie was also killed during the course of the encounter. They added that Ganie was returning home, after attending a function.
Reports further said that troops are carrying the search operations in the Gurez area to flush out the militants holed up inside the Gurez forests.
Meanwhile a carpenter was shot dead, while his wife injured when unidentified gunmen indiscriminately fired at them at Kangan in Ganderbal District late Sunday Night.
Reports said that unidentified gunmen barged inside a residential house one, Muneer Ahmad Khatana son of Israel Khatana at Mirgund Kangan on 10:30pm Sunday and fired volley of bullets towards him and his wife, killing Khatana on spot while his wife was injured in the shoot out. She was rushed to the hospital where doctors attending on her have termed her condition as critical, sources said, adding that gunmen fled away from the scene under the cover of darkness. Sources said that the brother of the deceased Younis Khatana is currently working with Territorial Army.
