The day also happens to be the Foundation Day of the AWSC when it was conceived and formed in June 2000. To celebrate the occasion large number of male and female members including their spouses attended the function. The members were welcomed by Er VN Sharma, senior vice president. The Annual Report of activities of AWSC was read by KK Mahajan, Gen Secy who gave details of the activities of AWSC during the preceding year i.e. 2010-11. The president Vikram Gour in his address highlighted various problems being faced by AWSC on account of the indifferent attitude of the government towards senior citizens. The State government till date has not adopted National Policy of Older Persons (NPOP) of 1999, neither it has adopted Senior Citizens Maintenance Act 2007 for benefit of the Elders in the family by their descendents although 23- states of the country have already adopted the said Act. The case for allotment of land to AWSC for Old Age Home is hanging in the balance for the last two years although the case was strongly recommended by Minister for Revenue, Raman Bhalla and Deputy Commissioner, Jammu has taken keen interest in the case. The case for allotment has been duly recommended by Ministry of Social Welfare. The members also expressed their anxiety over mode of payment of arrears of the 6th Pay Commission to the retiree Senior Citizens.
