EP tenants demand ownership rights, to hold dharna today | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 30:Evacuees Property Tenants Welfare Society (EPTWS) will hold a dharna protest tomorrow against the alleged indifferent attitude of the state governments towards its grievances. President Inder Mohinder Tar Singh while addressing the members of the society said that the proposed dharna protest from 10 am to 1 pm at Press Club, Jammu to wake up the deaf and dumb government which has been a mute spectator and paid no heed to their just demands. Singh said, “We will leave no stone unturned and fight till last to achieve ownership right on the EP and BC houses and the land as now our fourth generation is living in the said property and we have already paid the exorbitant amount in shape of rent which exceeds the cost of construction.” “This is high time to wind up the custodian department which has been torturing the tenants under one pretext or another. The dictatorial altitude of the same is unbearable,” he added Tar Singh urged upon the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to come forward and intervene and consider their just demands. “We would like to re-inform that wherever the custodian department were started are no more operative as the property has already been given to the occupants. If the same department has been wound up in rest of India why not in Jammu & Kashmir?,” Singh said “We urge this department should be immediately wound up,” added Tar Singh. It is unfortunate that tenants are living in shabby conditions and the damaged houses during the last earth quake are still to be repaired in-spite of our repeated requests. If the department cannot undertake the repair work then the government should understand that there is no need of such department, he said
