Red Cross Mela Concludes
Sham for greater involvement of youth in Red Cross activities

Jammu, October 30 : The 2-day Red Cross Mela organized bythe IRCS Jammu Region which was held at Kala Kendra concluded here today. Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr Sham Lal Sharma was chief guest at the valedictory function.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister stressed for greater involvement of youth with the Red Cross activities which include extending service to society, particularly downtrodden lot and those facing distress due to manmade or natural calamities, besides providing services to destitute, orphans and needy people. He appreciated the organizers for holding this mega event and involving the students from the city educational institutions and NGOs and general masses.
The Minister said that the involvement of youth with the activities of social services is imperative to imbibe love for humanity among them which is the need of the hour in present day materialistic world. He hoped that the participating youth would spread the message of Red Cross among their peer groups and all those who come in their contact in day to day life. He said every individual should associate him/ her /self with the Red Cross Movement and contribute in the cause being promoted by it. He stressed for organzihng such Melas at the Tehsil and block levels to create intrrest among the masses.
To make the event more attractive, various government and private schools and other organizations had put up Joy Rides and organized Magic Show, Inter School Dance Competition, Photo Exhibition of social works and Bhajan Sandha etc. The Minsiter also went round all the stalls and appreciated the effortgs of the participants. He showed keen interest in the articles displayed in the Mela.
Open Song Competition, Baby Show, DJ Dance, BSF, CRPF, JKP Bands, Sham-e-Gazal , Photo Exhibition on Birds, cultural items etc were some other highlights of the Mela.
The stalls selling state cuisines like Wazwan, Kehva and Kebab, Dogri Food, Chat Papri, Fast Food & Ice Cream were also installed at the Mela.
The government departments had also put up their stalls whereat the officials provided pamphlets and other material with regard to the schemes being implemented by them.
Among others, Director Health Services Madhu Khullar, CMO Jammu Dr. Baldev Raj Sharma, Health Officer Dr. Anwar Choudhary, Director Horticulture Jammu Mr. Jiya Lal Sharma, Secretary Red Cross and other prominent persons were also present on the occasion.
