Jammu, Oct 30: Why there is so unrest in Jammu University over the issue of corruption and Mal-administration? Why Government ordered high level probe in the affairs of the University? The Vice Chancellor, Dr Varun Sahni needs to make self introspection as to why the Government has put a question mark over the credibility of his leadership ability. He owes explanation to the people of Jammu that as to why he maintained silence when the then Registrar Dr Parshottam Singh Pathania looting the University money. And, why he elevated him to the post of Registrar knowing the fact that he was ineligible.
Dr Pathania exploited all his positions. He held the positions of Joint Registrar (Finance), Dean Student Welfare, Director Academic Staff College, Controller Examination, Director Colleges Development Council and finally become Registrar. He was appointed as Controller Examination in 2006 on tenure post. He was not qualified to hold the said position but even then he was selected. Further, instead of serving on appointment post, he served as Dean Student Welfare and Director Academic Staff College. He withdrew lakhs of rupee as advance for personal use. But, later fraudulently adjusted the amount.
However, he could not settle the account of the office of Dean Student Welfare. Here he got trapped. Very few people know that he tampered with the record of Academic Staff College. One can easily verify it from the record lying in the office. The matter was reported to the Vice Chancellor but he didn't respond for the reason not known to anybody. Under the shelter of authorities at the helm, he continued his malpractices. Instead of punishing him, the Vice Chancellor gave him out of way elevation to the post of Registrar. He misused that position also the maximum extent. Neither he was eligible for the post of Director Academic Staff College nor he was eligible for post of Registrar. But still he managed his show in the University thanks to the blessings of Varun Sahni and his predecessor.
But, finally the truth has prevailed. Pathania is now on the hit list of four member high level committee probing the corruption in JU. The report is likely to be submitted to the Government this week. |
