Sham supports Soz, says Cong stand clear on AFSPA | | | Kunal Shrivatsa Jammu, Oct 30: At a time when Congress is witnessing some internal differences within the party over AFSPA in the wake of senior cabinet minister Taj Mohi-u-Din having contradicted PCC chief's stand, Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma today asserted that Congress stand on removal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from Jammu & Kashmir is clear and there is no ambiguity over the issue in the party, Speaking exclusively to Early Times, Sham Lal refuted the reports that there is confusion in Congress over the removal of AFSPA from various districts of J&K. "The revocation of AFSPA is a critical issue…. Congress is surely not uncertain over AFSPA removal as state party chief Mr Saif-ud-din Soz made it amply clear that it would be revoked at an appropriate time," Sharma said "Soz also favoured to take all stake holders on board before making any decision over such a vital issue," he added Toeing his party chief Soz's line on AFSPA revocation, Health Minister Sham Lal said that due course has to be adopted before making a final call. "The revocation of AFSPA is not only related to militancy but it has its parameters beyond that … Such laws are enacted for the overall security and safety of the people… It should be withdrawn only after reading the ground situation," Sharma said. "The AFSPA removal should have a detailed discussion… The issue would be deliberated in the State Cabinet and being representative of the Congress party we would make our standpoint clear," he added When asked what view point of the party high command has over revoking AFSPA from the state, the Minister replied that the central leadership also backed the state unit for its stand. "Incharge Pradesh Congress Mohan Prakash and National Spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi have endorsed our point of view over the matter," Health Minister said. |
