68th EME Corps anniversary celebrated | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Udhampur, Oct 31: The Corps of EME was raised on 15 Oct 1943 as the Corps of a Indian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (IEME). IEME provided yeoman service during the Second World War, and post independence came to be known as the Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME). Since then the Corps has changed considerably in role and size and contributed effectively during various operations. With the proliferation of high technology and modernization of the Indian Army, the Corps was re-christened as the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers on 01 Jan 2001. On the occasion of the 68th Anniversary of the Corps, Lt Gen KT Parnaik, UYSM, YSM, GOC-in-C Northern Command extended best wishes and warm greetings to all ranks and civilians of the Corps and their families. The Indian Army has embarked on a rapid modernization programme in consonance with the advances in technology the world over. The induction of multi disciplinary weapon systems requires greater technical competence at all levels. The Corps has imbibed these skills and is well poised to meet the future challenges. The continued efforts of the Corps to develop its human resource have greatly helped in providing effective engineering support to our weapons and equipment. To this effect, the latest initiatives of Responsive and Just-in-Time training are a reflection of its proactive approach. Corps has also achieved many mile-stones in sports & adventure activities.
