After temporary truce battle lines drawn between Taj and Soz
10/31/2011 8:08:43 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 31:Truce between the two factions in the state unit of the Congress was not only a short lived affair but may give rise to bigger polarization in the organization after Minister for PHE Taj Mohi-ud-din publicly opposed his party chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz's stand on the AFSPA revocation issue.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's repeated utterances this commitment to withdraw AFSPA from some areas in the state had brought about reconciliation between the two factions of the Congress, one led by Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, and the other headed by PCC Chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz. Unitedly the state unit of the Congress opposed Omar's plan to AFSPA withdrawal.
The leaders belonging to the two factions of the Congress received clear instructions from the party high command to remain united while opposing Omar's plan. It was because of this instruction that Taj Mohi-ud-din too sided with Soz and others when he (Taj) has been seen supporting Chief Minister.
When Soz accused Omar of not consulting the Congress before airing his views on AFSPA revocation Taj Mohi-ud-din said that the Chief Minister had discussed the issue "with me." Does Taj represent the Congress in the Government? This question is being posed by supporters of Soz.
And these supporters blame Taj for having sabotaged the unity process by openly opposing the demand of the state unit of the Congress for reintroducing rotational chief ministership.
They said that Taj would have supported Omar on AFSPA revocation issue had not Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel suggested to Omar to defer his plan on AFSPA lifting issue. And when Taj is said to have come to know about Patel's instructions he felt that it was politically prudent for him to support Soz.
Now that battle-lines between Taj and Soz have been drawn and reports said that Taj may join the faction led by Azad. Hitherto he had been wavering, today in the Soz camp and the other day with the faction headed by Azad.
Reports said that supporters of Soz may take up with Congress high command the issue related to some alleged irregularities having been committed by Taj Mohi-ud-din.
