Indira Gandhi remembered on 27th death anniversary

JAMMU, Oct 31:The State fondly remembered former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 27th death anniversary today with several organisations paying rich tributes to the departed leader.
To commemorate the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi today, several functions were held by the Congress throughout the Jammu province.
While the main function was held at the party headquarters Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu. The function was organised by Pradesh Congress Committee and attended by senior functionaries of PCC, District Presidents, Ministers, Legislators, office bearers of DCC Jammu, Block Presidents, Youth Congress, INTUC, Mahila Congress, Seva Dal and NSUI.
The function was presided over by former Member Parliament and Senior Vice President PCC Dharam Pal Sharma and addressed by former Deputy Chief Minister and Senior Vice President PCC Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma, Vice Presidents Th. Hari Singh, Gurmukh Singh; General Secretary & Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma-MLC, Mahila Congress President Indu Pawar and others.
Rich tributes were paid to the former Prime Minister by the senior leaders of the party. They remembered the achievements of Indira Gandhi who was known as an iron lady for her dynamism qualities of leadership, farsightedness and statesmanship. She led the country to great heights of success in various fields and India emerged as a strong and powerful nation in the World due to the able leadership of Gandhi. She was one of the most successful Prime Minister of the country who worked for the welfare and upliftment of the downtrodden and poor and brought allround development and progress of the country. Veteran Congress leader Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma referred to his association with the great leader and the Congress party and described her dynamic personality under whose leadership country and the Congress party emerged stronger. He said that she always respected party workers and enforced discipline in the party.
In another programme, District Congress Udhampur organised a workers’ meeting to pay floral tributes to the Indira Gandhi.
The meeting was presided over by Chenani MLA Krishan Chander Bhagat where in former Minister & Vice President PCC Yash Paul Khajuria-MLC was the Chief Guest.
Large number of workers from Jaganoo, Ritti, Kuperia, Rown, Battal Ballian, Jib-Thathi, Tikri, Mand, Champeri, Chenani and other adjoining areas participated in the function.
While addressing the function Yash Paul Khajuria said that Gandhi was courageous, brave, bold, generous and an intelligent woman. He said that Smt. Gandhi added new dimensions to the Non-Alignment Movement and made it a force in World affairs. He said that nobody will forget the glorious victory over Pakistan in 1971 war. She changed the political scenario in Asian Continent by carving a new country Bangladesh in this region. He further said that the best way to pay tributes to Smt. Indira Gandhi will be to work honestly for realizing her dreams for making India a strongest and prosperous country in the World.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Chenani Krishan Chander Bhagat said that Gandhi was a lady of courage. Her efforts for brotherhood, peace and upliftment of the weaker section cannot be forgotten. He further said that Gandhi initiated many policies for poor, downtrodden and worked to make India a strong nation.
The other prominent leaders attended the meeting were Ashok Bakshi, Surinder, Vijay Manhas, Vijay Padha, Dr. Jagdish Prasher, Gunjar Singh, Sunil Gupta, Ashok-Surpanch, Anand Jandial and Sunil Badyal.
The first and only woman Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi was fondly remembered by the activists of the District Congress Kathua.
A programme was organized at the PWD rest house Kathua to pay homage to Indira Gandhi.
On the occasion, the party workers took pledge to follow the foot steps of Indira Gandhi. The programme was organized under the leadership of MLC and Distt President Congress Subash Gupta, Rattan Chand Karotra, Pawan Sharma, Sardar Khan, Manohar Singh, Devo Kumari, Mulkh Raj and others.
On the occasion while remembering the role of former Prime Minister, the Distt President Congress Subash Gupta said that Indira Gandhi was the role model of entire world leadership who laid her life for the cause of nation.
Rajiv Gandhi and Surya Colleges of Education, Kathua organized programmes in their respective premises to pay the floral homage to Indira Gandhi on her 27th death anniversary.
On the occasion the chairman of both the colleges Pankaj Dogra along with students observed two minute silence as a mark of respect for the former Prime Minister. On the occasion, Dogra said that Indira Gandhi was a world wide respected leader who brought India from darkness to light.
Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) too paid floral tributes to Indira Gandhi. The party observed 27th death anniversary of Indira Gandhi as anti-violence day.
While addressing the Panthers workers at New Delhi, JKNPP Chairman Prof Bhim Singh said the party observed this day in the memory of one of the greatest leaders of the world who had refused to surrender to the Anglo-American interest during her tenure as a Prime Minister of India. It was Indira Gandhi who faced expulsion from the Congress and jails from the Janta rule yet no power on earth could shake her belief in democracy and rule of law.
Singh said Indira Gandhi was a great leader and her assassination should be made syllabus for peace in every home, school and the university.
Gujjjar Mahasabha, Jammu also remembered Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary. A meeting of Akhil Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha J&K Chapter was convened at Jammu to pay homage to Indira Gandhi.
Eshfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal, president of the Mahasabha paid rich tributes to her. Prominent Gujjar speakers who spoke on the occasion include Ch Abdul Qayom Provincial president, Ch Alam Din and Ch Bashir Ahmad. Valuable contributions made by Indira Gandhi were remembered with great appreciation and regard. Her sterling qualities were highly lauded by all the participants.
District Congress Seva Dal Jammu Urban organized a meeting at Gandhi Nagar, Jammu on the occasion of 27th death anniversary of Indira Gandhi.
BS Sambyal State Chief of Congress Seva Dal J&K along with other Seva Dal workers paid rich tributes to Indira.
Addressing the meeting, Sambyal said the Seva Dal workers must follow the path shown by our great leader Indira Gandhi.
