Dedicate to the task of grooming the future generations

The present flourishing trend of the education set up is more focussed on the quantity production relegating the quality to the back yard. Be it the matter of recruiting the new teachers or opening of the new Alma matter or the up gradation of the old existing institutions but nobody is concerned about the existing woeful plight of the educational institutions irrespective of the public, private or the cooperative enterprises. But honestly speaking, despite catering the education at the zero kilometre level mileage, the scenario has not changed to see the face of education shinning. The reason is obviously missing link of focussing on quality dissemination of the education. The present set of education is mainly aimed at minting the education at the cost of quality affording of education.
The situation has arisen due to inadequate staffing in these educational institutes apart poor infrastructural provisions. Even Goverdhan Mehta Committee has endorsed in his recommendations that there is faculty crunch in respect of the quality where as Yashpaul Committee has reiterated about the falling standards of education. What is irony is that whenever we talk of the growth and development, we always focus on how many more colleges have been opened ill emphasising the deployment of the qualitative of staff thus leaving the burdening of work load on the existing staff that do not render yeoman's service causing huge problem to the students who thus remain deprived of the services of the teachers. In fact in many institutes it has been observed that there is lopsided student - teacher ratio . Further one cannot ignore the fact that the education system has not been unable to sustain good teachers but also fails to attract bright scholars to its fold. Only those come to seek this job who eventually fails to consolidate their hand in any other fields. To utter dismay, presently the mismatch on supply and demand of teachers is quite alarming and shocking. One fails to comprehend that when there are lakhs of students holding post graduates degreesand graduates students churning out of the educational and universities, then why so much uproar is raised for the vacant posts. Why do advertisements for various academic positions more often than not end up with the remark, that none was found apt for the respective advertised post? Recruitment of a teacher is tough job .Selection of an intellectually deficient teacher not merely lead to wasting big resources but also gives a covered license to someone to spoil the future of coming generations. It is why on this account it is often called that one may be denied of guidance of a good teacher but one should never be in the clemency of a bad teacher. A bad teacher is like a bad carpenter who spoils the quality of the wood without giving it shape and adding grace to its look. Instances are common where students holding postgraduates degrees in top ranking even miss on basics of the discipline. Till recently not many serious steps were adopted and implemented for rejuvenating the education system with some tangible standards. Degrees were being granted for asking as virtually non mechanism could be evolved for highest quality certification. Evaluation process adopted does not serve the purpose but even then highest degrees like M. Phil., Ph. D ,M.S. ,M.D, ETC are granted casting doubt on the integrity of the evaluator and his style of functioning and recommendations. Ironically today we have outnumbered category of students thriving on imperatives of consumerist society which compels the most brilliant brains to excel outside the academics .It is generally not uncommon to find that a number of institutions have faculty members who were at one point of time even did not qualify to get admissions as students to study in those institute. It is mainly thanks to covered hide and seeks policy matter. The situation has grown worse since internal system of education got into existence. This internal system of evaluation and certification is proving to be a boon for the intellectually deficient and professionally incompetent teachers who teach few selected chapters and then set the paper out of that facilitating to the student's fraternity, thus keeping the both teacher and students lobby in happy and comfortable zone. But this symbolic relationship puts a question mark on teaching community in general about their approach in dealing with the system. Are they doing justice to their profession? No, not at all. In this regard, teacher community needs to blame as well because none of them have ever come forward in unity to raise any concern or voice against such sort of established network. In fact, when cry has been raised it reflected for the promotions of the teachers on the lines of babus which may amount to the political success but definitely at the cost of the academic upheavals. In short the system is caught in cobweb of a vicious circle and everyone involved is busy in grinding one's own axe. While some are blemishing the profession but there are some others who are deeply concerned about its deterioration as well and wants a reversal. Then what is the possible, way out .Responsibility rests with those who feel strongly about the system .It would be worthwhile if present lot of those teachers concerned resorted to playing a model role for the society. They have to dedicate themselves to the task of grooming the future generations so that the brilliant come to join them and occupy the vacant slots. Spawning a new breed of teaching community requires a 6 to 8 years of sacrifice on the part of teachers .They may be requested to work under the odd non academic conditions to groom the future generations, and only then nation will be eventually safe from most of its ills. Otherwise days are not far off when the structure will crumble beyond repairs.
