Jammu, Oct 31: A National Conference leader yesterday said the PDP was habitual of leveling wild allegations against its leadership. They on one hand, level false allegations, but at the same time, without feeling ashamed, tender apology publicly which speaks volumes about their political bankruptcy."
Feeling ashamed and apologizing in public, for his information needs courage. Political circles believe that a person who apologizes for his mistakes has sound character. This is something which other politicians lack.
He said, "Omar Abdullah is the first Chief Minister who despite being in power has un-ambiguously made it clear before the Indian leadership that Kashmir is a political issue which can be resolved by political means only."
This is where the weakness of the NC lies. Like NC the Hurriyat leaders also believe that Kashmir is a political issue and needs a political solution. If Omar holds similar views, why does he, in his capacity as Home Minister order their arrest and detain them under draconian Public Safety Act (PSA)?
The leader said NC was a strong people's movement which has offered sacrifices for empowerment of the common masses and strengthening the democratic values in the state since last six decades.
The leader contradicted the Chief Minister. On June 30 last year, Omar Abdullah while talking to a news channel said: NC is a weak organization. While in power the organization loses contact with the people."
Omar said he did not understand why National Conference leaders and workers forget that people can vote them to power and also vote them out of power. "In 2002 we suffered defeat because we had not contact with the people at the grass root level", he said.
The NC always talks of sacrifices it offered while fighting the dynastic Dogra rule. What has NC advocated and promoted since 1947? In the above quoted talk Omar said he would feel happy if a person having no connection with Sheikh Family was elected president of the National Conference.
Omar was taken to task by his father for issuing such a `democratic' statement. He publicly and `shamelessly' ruled out such a possibility. |
