'Overstepping' his jurisdiction, Taj shoots letter to Sonia
Defiant on Soz stance, says will continue to support Omar

Jammu, Oct 31: In what can be seen as PHE Minister Taj Mohi-u-Din taking up direct cudgels against PCC Chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz and overstepping his authority and jurisdiction, the former shot a letter to Congress president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today, preferring to explain his 'position' on the controversy erupted within the party after he contradicted the stand taken by state Congress president over AFSPA revocation. Taj who is openly seen as the only Congress Minister supporting NC and Omar Abdullah, is also learnt to have sought to clear the air on accusations coming from party leaders over his disinclination on change of guard and any move to have Chief Minister from Congress for next three years.
A day after Taj came under attack from senior Congress leaders for contradicting Soz comments and statements, which in a way are construed as having brazenly opposed PCC chief's move and offer for wider consultations and consensus on the AFSPA revocation, instead of making things clear at the state level, the Congress Minister from Kashmir in way overlooking the authority of Prof Soz and defying his stand, chose to communicate directly with the High command, a move which is being seen as defying discipline and dishonouring the designation and hierarchy authorised by the high command.
Ironically, a defiant Taj not only made his position clear in a bid to steer clear of grave allegations leveled by his colleagues of having continuously sided with NC several times, he used the expressions and vocabulary confronting PCC hief directly and even complaining about his inaction in terms of not having convened Coordination Committee meeting. In the one page letter Taj has contradicted his party colleagues claims that he kept the party in dark over the decision of revocation AFSPA .
"I'm writing you about some facts. I met Prof Soz on October 26 at his residence and informed him that Chief Minister (Omar Abdullah) consulted me before announcing that AFSPA would be revoked from certain areas…….. I told CM that we have to take army and other security agencies into confidence before taking the decision," the letter reads.
"I informed Soz that it is a sensitive issue and he was fully aware of the facts. But I don't know why he says now he wasn't aware. It was discussed in the cabinet also," it added.
Taj wrote to Sonia that Soz being chairman of the coalition government's coordination committee could have called a meeting to discuss the issue.
"What Soz claims that it was done deliberately is not true. I'm writing you so that you will be aware of the facts. Whatever decision high command takes will be binding," Taj wrote to Sonia.
Talking to a news agency , Taj confirmed that he wrote a letter to the Congress president. "I'm proceeding on Hajj pilgrimage, but before that I sent a letter to Sonia jee and other Congress leaders. I wanted to put facts before Sonia jee and high command," he said.
"It is prerogative of high command to take decision now. Whatever decision they take will be binding on me," he added.
Asked to comment on supporting Omar as Chief Minister for full six years when most of his colleagues were against it, Taj said, "I'm doing what high command has asked me to do. Till date there has been no change in the agreement reached with NC by the high command."
"I question Prof Soz when Prime Minister, Home Minister and Ghulam Nabi Azad say Omar is CM for full six years, why don't Soz ask them. If Taj says so why is he (Soz) angry? In Congress no decision is taken without consent from Sonia jee," he added.
