C K Nayudu U-22 Cricket Tournament | J&K inflicts follow-on to Vidharbha, earns 3 points Shubam, Owais shine with bat, skipper Manik, Sahil with ball | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov I: Jammu and Kashmir inflicted follow-on to Vidharbha and earned three points after taking first innings lead of 171 runs today in the four day match of the ongoing C K Nayudu U-22 Cricket Tournament at Nagpur. While chasing the first innings score of 520 runs set by J&K, Vidharbha resumed their innings from 330 for 7 and were bundled-out for 349 runs on the fourth day of the match. It was a sheer-dint of hard-work by the J&K bowlers as they restricted the rival team from surpassing their huge total on otherwise a batting friendly surface of Nagpur. Skipper and wrist spinner Manik Gupta led from the front by bowling a splendid spell to scalp four important wickets while speedster Sahil Sharma and another leggie Deepak Singh Manhas took three wickets each. Following-on Vidharbha scored 231 for six in their second innings before the match was called off. J&K was awarded three points for taking the first innings lead. For J&K, Manik Gupta and Sahil Sharma again shone with the ball to take three wickets each. Earlier, in the first innings J&K had amassed a mammoth total of 520 runs including two centuries and two half-centuries. Youngster Shubam Khujuria hit swashbuckling 112 runs in which he struck shots with fluid grace and utter brilliance, while Owais Shah also scored a brilliant ton (109) runs. Manik Gupta contributed 60, wicket-keeper Gokul Baru (58) and Aditya Pratap Singh also chipped in with 48 runs. The tournament is being organized by Board of Control for Cricket in India. J&K will take on Assam at Gwahati on November 5. Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association has attributed the performance of the team to the efforts of its chief coach Bishan Singh Bedi. “This is for the first time that our team has scored 520 runs in the first innings. This is an achievement as our team has kept the wickets for two days. This is the result of the efforts put in by our chief coach Bishan Singh Bedi. We are hopeful of putting in best performance in other upcoming matches as also in Ranji trophy. ” said JKCA officials. Meanwhile, JKCA will host two Ranji matches in Srinagar in which the host JK team will take on Assam during November 3 to 6 and then will play against Jharkhand during November 10 to 13. The host team will play one match against Goa in Jammu during November 17 to 20. “Our Ranji team is fully prepared for the encounter and we are hopeful of good results in the matches,” said JKCA officials.
