Motorcycle expedition flagged-in | | | Early Times Report Udhampur, Nov 1: A motorcycle expedition on Silver Jubilee of Army Avn Corps which was flagged off on October 8 by Maj Gen AK Siwach,YSM,VSM, the Chief of Staff of Fire & Fury Corps, was flagged in at Udhampur, today. The expedition successfully completed an arduous route spanning across the length and breadth of Ladakh. It was organised under the aegis of Corps Aviation Base and was undertaken by a team of Army aviators and aviation technicians led by Col Saurav Schimer and comprising of four officers and two other ranks. These spirited ‘Soldiers in the Sky’ rode their motorcycles across Ladakh traversing the most inhospitable regions crossing some of the highest passes in the world including Khardungla, Fotila and Marsimikla, reaching out to remotest places like Hanle, Fukche, Demchok, Dungti, Pangongtso, Tsogstsalu, Tangtse, Partapur Turtuk and the Gateway to Siachen glacier -The Base Camp. In all, the expedition covered more than fifteen hundred kilometers on motorcycles in seven days, conveying a message that Army Aviation Corps in its glorious 25 years has not only operationally been a force multiplier but has even been a saviour to its countrymen in times of calamities in aid to civil authorities. It promptly pressed into action last year during Cloud Burst at Leh evacuating 183 people to safety including foreigners and Lifting 2.5 Tonnes of load by flying 217 hours on its helicopters in 139 sorties. It is a life line to our troops deployed in worlds highest battlefield,“ the Siachen Glacier’’. The ‘Flying Bikers’ rode with the inspiring motto –‘Ride on, Soldier on, Fly on’ and once again displayed the unnerving spirit of Indian Army Aviation Corps against any given odds. With the onset of winters, the temperatures were well below zero at most of the places with strong wind chill and various administrative and maintenance problems, but these challenges meant little to the members who rode with gusto and handled them keeping in spirit with the inspiring credo of Army Aviation ‘Swift and Sure’. They drove in safely with their spirits soaring high when the expedition was flagged in by Brig R S Yadav, SM , Cdr Fire & Fury Avn Base
