| Re-verification of LPG connections | | People face harassment | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Kishtwar, Nov 1: People in remote Kishtwar district are being harassed on the name of re-verification of LPG connections. According to the people, the owners of Jagdamba Gas Agency in Kishtwar and its employees called the customers of LPG gas connection holders for re-verification of their gas connection sighting the reason of instructions issued by the Union Petroleum ministry in the year 2009 in which the directions have been issued to all LPG franchises that they will not issue two gas connection on one ration card.
The order in no mean stated that all those connections that were issued before the said directives are need to be re-verified, beside this there is also no mention about the cancellation of 2nd gas connection issued on single ration card.
The people alleged that the employees of Jagdamba Gas Agency Kishtwar were harassing them and demanded for original copy of ration card from them. They said that on one hand they fear that their ration cards might get lost or misused and on the other the consumers fear that they might lose the ownership right of LPG connection.
"Firstly the government neither provided us Kerosene Oil nor they provided us firewood for cooking our food and now they stated harassing us on the name of re-verification of our LPG connection," said Ghulam Nabi Sheikh from Trigham village of Kishtwar.
Sheikh said that he has submitted all the documents pertaining to re-verification of his gas connection and after that, he is regularly visiting the office of Jagdamba Gas Agency since last 14 days without any fruitful result. He said that people have left with no option as there is no electricity, no firewood, no Kerosene Oil and now they could not get their gas cylinders refilled regularly.
Another customer Majid Muzaffar Najjar (teacher) said that same agency have entertained our two gas connections on one ration card when we transferred both the gas connections of HP in Doda to Indian Oil in Kishtwar. Majid said that why at that time the agency entertained our both gas connections, why the agency did not raise objections then.
Najjar said that he is working as a government employee and need to avail the leave, which he can't afford regularly. He also questioned the time for re-verification of old gas connections.
People also alleged that the lone gas agency has issued connection in favour of Non Residents of Jammu and Kashmir, besides also in favour of security forces out of gas connection quota meant for the public of Kishtwar District.
"We have also apprised the CAPD Minister and raised certain demands before him which include demand for separate quota of LPG connections/Supply of LPG cylinders beside Kerosene Oil and firewood for security forces working in different capacities in Kishtwar district," said Rajinder Kumar.
As the Order No: JMAO/LPG/Distt dated June 03, 2010 issued by the Indian Oil Corporation to Jagdamba Gas Agency clearly states that the Gas Agency will ensure 100% home delivery of LPG cylinders, beside this the agency was barred to issue any new LPG connection beyond 15 KM area, however, the agency has been asked to continue the refilling of enrolled gas connections till further orders. But instead of following the directions that give benefit to the general public, the Agency dictates its own terms and policies thus causing harassment to the general public. |
