11/2/2011 9:07:42 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Rajouri, Nov 2: Bhartiya Janta Party state secretary and party’s polling booth incharge of Jammu Poonch Parliamentary Constituency advocate Vibodh Gupta has said that accession of Jammu & Kashmir with India become possible in 1947 only because of Brig. Rajinder Singh.
However Army’s contribution is being forgotten and repeal of Armed Forces Special Power Act will sink the state and will be disastrous for the future of the state.
In a function organized by BJP ex servicemen cell headed by its district president Bodh Raj to pay tribute to Brig. Rajinder Singh, advocate Vibodh Gupta, has said that Army’s role is being forgotten and some NC-Congress led coalition government is recommending repeal of AFSPA from this state.
He said that the state’s accession with India was possible only because of Army officer like Brig Rajinder Singh who saved this state when Pakistan attacked Kashmir on October 22, 1947 and Maharaja Hari Singh was informed about the fall of Mazaffrabad.
He said that on the orders of the Maharaja Brig Rajinder Singh proceeded towards Muzaffrabad with a small force of hundred men and killed atleast 6,000 invaders at Garhi.
He decided to blow Uri bridge and delay the Pakistani forces to enable Maharaja Hari Singh to carry out accession parleys so that Indian Army could move in to ultimately save the state and throw the invaders out.
He said that after demolishing Uri Bridge he fought delaying actions at Uri, Mahura and Rampur inflicting heavy casualties to gain four days till he was ambushed.
Gupta said that state government must recommend more powers to army who have saved this state in 1947 and who have fought atleast 4 wars with Pakistan for saving this state from Pakistan.
“There is need to strengthen army than to weaken it”, he added.
