| Panchayats in Chrarisharief bullied by politicians: PDP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Nov, 2 :Denouncing the govt’s inability to fully empower the panchayats. PDP today asked the govt to take note of the reports about the dissatisfaction of Panches and Sarpanches from various areas especially Chrarisharief block.
In a statement a spokesman of the party said it was unfortunate that such reports should come even from the constituencies represented by senior politicians of the ruling party and that hurdles should be created in the functions of the newly elected panchayats instead of facilitating them.
The spokesman said there had been reports that even plans under MNREGA and IAY prepared by the Panchayats being rejected or changed by officials at the behest of their political bosses. This attitude he said could severely damage the faith of the people in these institutions and compromise the independence of panchayats.
The spokesman said the PDP has already put the govt on notice of a mass movement over its inability to empower panchayats at all levels and allow them freedom of functioning within their constitutional domain.
