Rich tributes paid to veteran Dogri poet Late Tara Smailpuri

Jammu, Nov 2: In a special programme organized by Dogri Sanstha, Jammu prominent writers and litterateurs paid rich tributes to veteran Dogri Poet Late Sh. Tara Smailpuri.
Sh. Tara Smailpuri departed for heavenly abode on 18th of October,2011.
The rich contributions of Sh. Tara Smailpuri to Dogri poetry in particular and Dogri language and literature in general were remembered by a galaxy of writers and intellectuals.
The speakers on the occasion appreciated the role of Sh. Tara Smailpuri in molding the development of Dogri literature in a significant manner.
He was immensely popular as a poet among the masses because of his penchant for humour and satire in his poetry.
He specially targeted the hypocrisy and superstitions in the society at various levels. He was one of those accomplished writers of Dogri who were instrumental in popularizing Dogri among the masses.
He was a great proponent of Dogra culture. His contribution to bring out the first books of Dogri idioms and proverbs were milestones in the progress of Dogri language and literature.
In addition to his three collections of poetry, he had contributed for the preparation of first three volumes of Dogri-Dogri dictionary and Dogri-Hindi Shabda-kosh as Co-editor. He was recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award and had also been conferred many other awards.
At a personal level he was a man full of wit and humour who delighted his company where ever he was present.
The speakers, while paying tributes, narrated many such anecdotes and instances which highlighted his above mentioned qualities.
Those who paid tributes to the departed soul include Nilamber Dev Sharma, Lalit Magotra, President of Dogri Sanstha, Veena Gupta, Pradyuman Singh Jindrahia, Chhatrapal, Gianeshwar, Baldev Singh, Shashi Pathania and many other writers.
The family members and friends of Sh. Tara Smailpuri were also present on the occasion.
